FALL HAIRCARE TREATMENT + TIPS

If there's one thing I love, it's the fall season! I love the kind of weather where you can throw on a thick sweatshirt but still shoot hoops outside comfortably lol. I love the clean, crisp scents of auburn leaves and pumpkin spice. Yes, I'm basic for three months. I promise, it's only for the autumn season but I got drip for the rest of the year. So in this time, while I wait for the weather to cool down, I plan a good hair regimen so that I can treat and correct any damage I've undergone during the blistering summer. Oceans, festivals, gyms, airplanes, our hair goes through a lot as we enjoy the summer break! So it's important to give it the care it deserves.

Speaking of hair, if you tuned into last week's post on growing up mixed, then you know about my struggle with hair and wanting to fit in as a teen. I really want to say thank you for reaching out and sharing your experiences this past week! It means a lot to me since it was my first time opening up about it. So in honor of that post, I'm back this week with my personal advice on how to create a very sleek + shiny look. It's my favorite style for the fall especially because I can get it to last longer when it's not so hot. It's taken me two years to grow it out! No more color, no more hair extensions, way less heat. I'll talk more on my hair journey in another post, but for now, here are my current tips for all hair types.

1 | DO INVEST IN A GOOD CONDITIONER

It's crucial for repair and for smoothing out broken ends. I apply my deep conditioner once a week, usually on a friday when I have downtime before I put heat on it. I use oribe gold lust transformative masque and it does a really good deep moisturizing job. I am also into cleansing conditioners and soft shampoos with no sulfates, they're really good before a blow dry. It gives me a very soft finish and protects my hair from breakage.

2 | FISH OIL IS MY NEW BIOTIN

Yes, we've been taking biotin forever. I take it every night. But honestly, fish oil is my current supplement that I take every other day. It makes me feel so much better internally and I believe it's helping me with hair growth. I once had my hair dyed to a level 10 blonde and that about killed 8 inches of my hair! So I do everything I can to take the proper nutrients!

3 | STEAM YOUR SCALP + STRANDS

This is my secret treatment I rarely talk about. But since I love you guys, I want to share this tip with you! I looove to steam my whole head! What I do is put a deep conditioner into my hair, or I use coconut oil or africa's best herbal oil. Then I sit under my steamer and relax! You can try the spa pro personal hair & facial steamer. The heat is great for scalp stimulation and it cleanses your strands for that extra shine. (I'll share all the steps in another beauty post!)

4 | COMB BEFORE YOU COOL WASH

Lastly, this is something I never used to do but I realized how important this step was. It's really good to brush out your hair, starting from the ends to the root, before you shower. I like to use the wide tooth comb from eternally in amber. If you can support your small black-owned businesses and local markets, do it! When I shower, I never put all my hair on top of my head and give it a suds bath. No ma'am. I put a quarter size of my cleanser into my scalp and gently massage, letting the water rinse the product from the top down. This is to protect my hair and to keep the strands from tangling. When I rinse with cool water, it makes it even shinier!
