MY FAVORITE POST-WORKOUT MEAL: MOLA MOLA POKE

MOLA MOLA

WHAT FIRST BEGAN AS AN IDEA, MY FRIEND KENNETH, AND FIVE OF HIS FRIENDS CAME TOGETHER WHEN THEY COULDN'T FIND GOOD POKE IN THE DALLAS AREA. THEY DECIDED TO MAKE THEIR OWN POKE AND EXPERIMENTED WITH VARIOUS FLAVORS. THEY DECIDED TO HOST A TASTE TEST. I, MYSELF, WAS THERE NEARLY TWO YEARS AGO AND I REMEMBER ALL OF THEIR PREPARATION. IT WAS SO EXCITING TO SEE THEM ALL WORKING TOGETHER IN THE KITCHEN, IT WAS GRASSROOTS. I KNEW THEY WERE ON TO SOMETHING. GETTING GREAT FEEDBACK FROM FAMILY AND FRIENDS, THEY DECIDED TO START A RESTAURANT! MOLA MOLA WAS BORN.

AS A TEAM, KENNETH TRAVELED ACROSS THE COUNTRY. HE EXPLORED HAWAII TO TASTE THE FRESHEST POKE. FROM THEIR EXPERIENCES THEY DECIDED TO PUT TOGETHER A MENU THAT WAS REPRESENTATIVE OF WHAT THEY INTERPRETED TO BE QUALITY POKE. THE BEST PART ABOUT MOLA MOLA IS THAT THEY ARE SUSTAINABLE, OFFER UNIQUE HEALTHY OPTIONS (ALSO VEGAN) AND USE TRADITIONAL METHODS DURING PREPARATION. 

THEIR INTEREST IN ART, BUSINESS, AND FOOD HAS INTERTWINED TO CREATE SOMETHING INSPIRING. MOLA MOLA IS A WONDERFUL PLACE FOR THOSE TO GATHER AND ENJOY AMAZING AND FRESH CUISINE. 

THE INTERIOR DESIGN INCORPORATES BOTH CLEAN AND MODERN STYLE AS WELL AS WARM WOOD TONES. IT REMINDS ME OF THAT BEAUTIFUL ISLAND-TRIBAL AESTHETIC. THE SPACE IS COLORFUL AND VIBRANT. EACH WALL IS INSTAGRAMMABLE AND GREAT FOR GATHERINGS!

MOLA MOLA OFFERS ITEMS THAT ARE NOT AVAILABLE IN MOST POKE SHOPS SUCH AS BORA FISH, STRIPED MULLET, AND OCTOPUS. WHEN I TASTED THE POKE, I HAD THE SPICY TUNA TOSSED IN THEIR HOUSE SHOYU AND THE BORA MARINATED IN THE HOUSE WASABI MAYO. I ALSO ENJOYED THE BEETS BY ANDRE! THEY WERE SO DELICIOUS AND PERFECT FOR THE VEGETARIAN DIET. EDAMAME, CUCUMBER, BEETS, AND OTHER FRESH PAIRINGS WERE INCLUDED ON A BED OF WARM RICE. TO TOP IT OFF, I TRIED THEIR PUNCH, WHICH WAS A MIXTURE OF TROPICAL FRUITS.  

OVER THE YEARS I'VE GONE TO MANY POKE SHOPS, AND OFTEN TIMES I SEE A CHIPOTLE-LIKE SET UP WHERE YOU PUT ALL OF YOUR TOPPINGS TOGETHER WITH TWO SCOOPS OF PROTEIN. WHAT I LOVE ABOUT MOLA MOLA IS THAT THE POKE IS MARINATED, IT'S FRESH, THE TEXTURE IS PERFECT WITH THE VEGGIES. THE FLAVOR IS NOT LIKE MOST PLACES! I LOVE THAT I GET MY FIBER, PROTEIN AND GRAIN ALL IN ONE BOWL THAT'S PERFECTLY PORTIONED. IT'S THE  PERFECT POST-WORKOUT MEAL.
