YOGI PLAYLIST VOL. 5 X ROBERT GLASPER INSPO
This week I got to go see a cool show at The Prophet Bar in Dallas, hosted by Robert Glasper. Other amazing artists such as Terrace Martin & RC & The Gritz also performed. I don't have photos because I got a bit fuzzy and faded and decided to just enjoy the moment. I heard about Robert Glasper a few years back and I was in awe, I think I discovered him through Youtube. I love his vibe so much that I wanted to create a new yogi playlist inspired by this neosoul, jazzy, relaxing genre. He has a very healing sound, it's so good for the soul I tell you! Some of my favorite songs are Afro Blue, So Beautiful, and Downtime. I find his music to be fun for an afternoon of experimenting with poses and just playing with it in a freeform yoga session.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
In case you don't know about Robert Glasper: He's from Houston, Texas. Robert plays the keyboard and is also a producer. "Glasper's earliest musical influence was his mother, Kim Yvette Glasper, who sang jazz and blues professionally. She took him with her to club dates rather than leave her son with babysitters." His sound was developed in the church and he attended the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music in NYC. In 2012, his album, Black Radio, won a Grammy Award. He's worked with Mos Def, Bilal, Maxwell, Slum Village, Q-Tip, Kanye, Erykah Badu, and the great J Dilla. His sound is very neo-soul, a mix of hip hop and jazz, gospel, and R&B. It's been said by another artist that Robert is "a gifted jazz musician with a brilliant, energetic technique and a fresh, mesmerizing sense of melody and composition". I would definitely agree!
