A LITTLE ABOUT YCRC

It's been a little over four years now that I've had this awesome opportunity to volunteer for youth conflict resolution center, inc! Ycrc is a non-profit with a mission to help young people learn conflict resolution skills to reduce violence and anti-bullying. The goal is to increase leadership, build interpersonal skills, and to provide a space for safe dialogue.

Founded by diana clark and headed by our president andrea clark, I've really come to love what they do and I'm constantly amazed by how much time and effort they put in! Diana is always so helpful and her vision has really instilled a great sense of community and humanitarianism in my life. Andrea has been like a big sister to me, I learn so much from her as I look to her for leadership.

A couple of years ago I was able to begin serving on the board after working as a volunteer and social media manager. I get to write their monthly newsletters and inform people in the community about what we're doing via our facebook page.

YCRC'S GIRL'S PILLOW TALK WORKSHOP

Every year ycrc has a multitude of events and one of those is called the pillow talk workshop. This event is for elementary to highschool students where they have the chance to learn from mentors, take part in a full day of activities, there's giveaways, food, and just a lot of girl talk!

For the last couple of years I get to teach the yoga session! I give out these short booklets on mental health, exercise, nutrition, yoga, meditation, anti-bullying, safety, and friendship.

This is such a fun and meaningful experience to me and I enjoy doing this event because I feel as though I'm teaching them skills for life.

"Give a man a fish, feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, feed him for life!"

I love helping young people and especially empowering girls with tools to use everyday. Exposing youth to positive outlets is so crucial in creating this society of progressiveness. I think actions go so much farther than words.

It was through this empowerment workshop that I learned more about myself and what I'm capable of. I love to see their reactions and how engaged they become. So many of them had great answers to my questions and were inquisitive about yoga! I taught them five poses and after class we did a one-minute circle meditation which really seemed to keep everyone calm! Getting to see the impact of our own actions is so therapeutic, I love seeing my seeds grow.

Thank you all for reading and staying updated! If you would like to learn how to get involved or about volunteer opportunities, please send me a message!
