Meditation Mantras for International Women’s Day

The Power of Intention

One of the best memories I’ve made this year is getting to help my students create a new mental picture for 2019. I'm a firm believer in setting intentions and this is an element that I consistently integrate into each and every one of my classes. It’s about getting off on the right note. And you may not hit every key perfectly, but you went into the day with a purpose. that’s the only thing that matters. One of the traits I am working on personally, is to try to remain positive in difficult times. Staying positive is a great way to hold space for individuals who may be battling their own challenges. It creates an environment for hope + joy.

Today, my intention is to provide you with a tool that you can implement, starting today. It’s something super easy + useful for those occasions in which you are tested, face adversity, or feel sad. this tool is something that many yogis and individuals use to find purpose and motivate themselves. It is simply called a mantra, or also known as an affirmation. Mantras have been used for centuries. We’ve seen them utilized in native american cultural practices. We’ve heard the spirituals sang by our African ancestors. They’ve been depicted throughout historical relics and within the artwork that weaves this rich interconnected history we all share.

Believe it or not, slogans and jingles are mantras that we remember all the time. Nike’s “Just do it” or Reebok’s “I am what I am” are both examples that we’ve seen. In Sanskrit, “man” means mind, and “tra” means to free from. In essence, a mantra is a tool that frees the mind. It is also great when you have distractions lurking, need to focus, or just want to connect with yourself spiritually

To design a mantra, remember that it should be born from your personal philosophy and how you intend to live your life. Think of it as an overarching theme, no matter what you endure or experience. It is the cloud that catches you in your darkest times. Yes, I’d say it can be rooted in the idea of a prayer. or maybe not at all.

In truth, i believe that it is perfectly okay to intersect your wellness path according to your faith. The beauty of yoga and wellness, in my opinion, is that we have choice in what we practice and how we use it in the world. This idea of duality is important as we celebrate international women’s day. We come from all paths, religious beliefs, ethnic backgrounds, and personal identity.

Let us cherish this moment, together.

Mantras Celebrating International Women’s Day

Navigating the challenges of womanhood can be complex, we still endure so much: Inequality, domestic violence, hostile working environments, sex trafficking and lack of healthcare are just some of the issues that we face. But the awareness for healing is spreading more than ever and we must keep the same energy in 2019.

To do that, I encourage you to develop a mantra that is close to your heart. You can then implement it into your meditation practice if you choose. See some of the mantras I’m sharing today! Or you can read some of my favorite mantras from other inspirational women!

The steps for implementation go as follows:

  1. Find a quiet space, become attuned to your breath.

  2. Create a mind / body connection through your breath work. You may use this time to meditate.

  3. Next, begin chanting your mantra. You can repeat it a few times or even 108 times! 108 is a symbolic number in the universe and is used often in mantra chanting.

Wishing you love + light.
happy international women’s day.
